D and I went shopping at the Chorzu Bazaar today. It's the oldest and largest bazaar in Tashkent. I'll say, It's huge! Different sections for clothing, linens, produce, street food vendors, spices and nuts. We left the hotel around noon. In the picture below you can see how much sum I brought with me. You can see about 900,000 Sum which equals about $450 USD. It's a pain. Heavy and cumbersome. I didn't spend that much.
Here are some of the silk scarves I bought as gifts for friends/family and myself. Yes, some look tye-dyed. :) They are really pretty though.
For all of these silk scarves, 130,000 sum. Which is $65.00. About $6.50 per scarf! We took the Subway to the bazaar. They spent a lot of money to have really nice subway stations. It only took us about 15 mintues to get there, that was even switching trains. D really knows her way around this city, whether on foot, by bus, car and train. I could get to the bazaar now by myself, but it's not recommended for me as a foreigner. So, the next time I want to go I'll ask D or my driver E. :)
