Many are wondering WTF I'm doing in Uzbekistan? Well, I had the opportunity to do a four month (with an option to extend, mind you.) international assignement with "Company X". I'll be here helping the Uzbeki sites get up and running in the safety arena. You ask, why Uzbekistan? Well, that's what was available and I have to start somewhere. Plus, I was looking for a reason to do something out of the ordinary and get out of my current office for a bit.
Seeing that I'm single and have parents who will willingly temporarily adopt my cats, I decided to go for it. I had wonderful send off's from my best girls, family and fish club friends. No tears upon leaving, however Skippy-Cat and his sad, blinky eyes made it a close call! I have reports though, that he's doing fine and Woodrow has been happily chasing toy mice since my departure. Parents pick up the boys on Friday. Good luck in the car! LOL.
I left Weds, Feb 1st at 7:30 Eastern time. I arrived in Tashkent, via Frankfort Germany at 9:30 pm Tashkent time. At home, that was approximately 11:30 AM. So yes...it's a 10 hour time difference. I've initially only had probably 5 hours of sleep in the last....24, make that 34 hours (24+10, I think..) However, now that I see the sun, my internal clock is starting to get back on the ball. I slept on the plane, but not well. Especially since the sinus plague set in right before I got on the plane. I was that sniffling, sneezing, coughing, feverish a-hole in the cabin with you. I didn't have a choice. I did drug myself rather well, but it was no match for the mucus. At least one box of tissues down and more to go. I am feeling better.
I didn't remember to eat when I got here. So I broke out my White Fudge Flips and took a $6.00 bottle of sprite out of the mini-bar. Just needed something in my tummy until breakfast. In a couple of hours, Lydia, from Relocation One will pick me up and take me to get my official Uzbeki HIV test and take me on a tour of the city, complete with lunch, a tour of the bazzar, markets, shopping centers and then back for my HIV results. Then, I'm officially a temporary Uzbeki. :)
I plan on trying to travel as much as I can while here. It depends on my work schedule and holidays, but I'm dying to get to St. Petersburg Russia, it's not that far away. Depending on a planned family trip, I may take a few extra days to get home and poke around Germany for a bit as well. We'll see. Anyway, stay tuned. I gotta get ready to go. And eat. I'm starving...but just what is Veal Ham and Chicken Ham? I don't think I want to try that, just yet!
